NOLLYWOOD MOVIES AWARDS: WHY IT HAS FAILED FOR TWO CONSECUTIVE YEARS

COUNTRY: NIGERIA
PRESENTED BY: NOLLY MOVIES NETWORK
AWARDED FOR: EXCELLENCE IN NIGERIA FILM INDUSTRY

The Nolly Awards , formerly Nollywood Movies Awards is an annual Nigerian film award presented by the Nollywood Movies TV to honour outstanding achievement in the Nigerian film industry.

The maiden edition of the Nollywood Movies Awards was held at the Civic Center in Lagos Nigeria on 2 June 2012 to reward excellence of film professionals in Nollywood. Tango with Me and Mirror Boy won the most awards. Genevieve Nnaji and Ramsey Nouah won the viewer's choice awards for the female and male categories respectively by popular vote.

The award was held for its first three years 2012, 2013 and 2014. In 2016, the awards was re-branded to Nolly Awards, with the 2016 edition to hold on May 1st, however, the ceremony didn't hold for the second year in a row.The question here is why the award has failed to hold for two consecutive years, could it be due to lack of sponsorship, or what could it be? From my own view the reasons i could only gather together for the failure of the failed award are as followed-

FIXED DATE/ SEASON : The Nolly Awards has been held for three and for the years held the ceremony have gone for different date/season.

The 2012 ceremony was held on the 2nd of June
The 2013 ceremony was held on the 12th of October
The 2014 ceremony was held on the 18th of October
While the 2016 ceremony was scheduled to hold on the 1st of May, but it was never held due to  reasons which were not given .

LOW PUBLICITY : The Nolly Awards i would say failed to make the right and accurate publicity, unlike the AMAA which every single movie lovers hear of and are always prepared to see. It was shocking when i asked ten youths about the Nolly Movies Award and all i could get in reply was if i am asking about the AMAA, "what the F...."

LACK OF SPONSORS : When you speak of sponsorship in Nigeria, hmmmm, its the hardest thing to get when trying to pull up an important and notable program or work. Laying one hand on sponsorship could cost years of continues  hard work and that Nolly Awards did not get that right.

Nolly Movies Awards we hope to see more of you in the future and we indulge you to pull back together and make it work again and this time around to stay for forever.

South Korean President Park Geun-hye arrested

Former South Korean President Park Geun-hye , who was removed from office earlier this month, was arrested on Friday. "Major crimes have been ascertained and there is a concern that the suspect might attempt to destroy evidence," Judge Kang Bu-young said in a text message to reporters. "The court recognizes the need, necessity and reasonableness of the suspect's arrest." Prosecutors announced Monday that they were seeking to arrest Park on charges relating to abuse of power, accepting bribes and leaking important information. "The suspect abused the mighty power and position as President to take bribes from companies and infringed upon the freedom of corporate management and leaked important confidential official information," the statement from the Seoul Central District Prosecutor's Office said. Park had been held in a temporary detention facility at the Seoul Central District Prosecutor's Office Building ahead of the court's decision. S...

Google apologises after ads appear next to extremist content

Google's European boss has apologized after adverts from major firms and government agencies appeared next to extremist content on its YouTube site. It came after Marks and Spencer became the latest firm to pull its online ads over the issue, joining others such as Audi, RBS and L'Oreal. Google's European chief, Matthew Brittin, promised to review the firm's policies and strengthen enforcement. But some questioned the company's commitment to tackling the issue. A recent investigation by the Times found adverts from a range of well-known firms and organisations had appeared alongside content from supporters of extremist groups on YouTube's video site. An advert appearing alongside a video earns the poster about £6 for every 1,000 clicks it generates, meaning brands may have unwittingly contributed money to extremists. The Times said that rape apologists, anti-Semites and hate preachers were among those receiving payouts. Analysis: Rory Cellan-Jones, BBC technolog...
