#Sierra Leone mudslide survivors remember day the mountain moved

Please pray for Sierra Leone, first it was the War, then Ebola and now this... "It happened as if it was a dream," says Gabriel Fattah Manga, recalling the day his world came tumbling down around him, and his life changed forever. Early last Monday morning Manga, 25, was preparing to head to work as a carpenter in the Regent area of Freetown, Sierra Leone, when he realized something was badly wrong "The land was trembling and the whole area was trembling with me," he tells CNN, his eyes still red-rimmed with emotion. "I came out to see what was happening. I saw water going down ... When I moved up to three meters, I saw this whole mountain coming." A massive mudslide, sparked by heavy rains and flooding in an area that has suffered years of deforestation, was speeding down the slopes of Mount Sugar Loaf, towards his home in one of the makeshift shanty towns that dotted the hillside. Manga survived, but an entire generation of his family was swept away in t...

Abeokuta's Flood - Prevent it before a cure will be needed

😓😒😞 This is a big disappointment, i could hardly believe it when this was sent to me this morning. First it was lekki in Lagos State and now it is Abeokuta in Ogun State. See refuse, haha.... Haaba, its too much, ii actually dont know if the flood brought the refuse from a far distance or if people had turned drainage's and canals into a refuse dump before the flood, or if it was during the flood people started dumping their refuse in it. Please we need to stop this uncalled for attitudes and learn to dispose our refuse properly. Ogun State Government also needs to provide a means for the people to dispose refuse and also make sure refuse are dumped properly by the residents of the state. A quick prevention should be done before this flood becomes what will make people homeless. Ise logun Ise.

CHILD WELFARE FAIL Government gets worst mark for children’s rights in six years as campaigners warn vulnerable kids are becoming invisible

THE Government has got its worst mark in six years for children’s rights with campaigners warning some of the most vulnerable are being rendered invisible. Awarding a D plus grade, the Children’s Rights Alliance said young victims of crime, homeless and poverty stricken youngsters, those from Traveller and Roma families and child refugees and asylum seekers are being left behind. The latest official figures, issued on Monday evening, revealed 87 families with 151 children became homeless in January in Dublin alone, that is one child becoming homeless every five hours. There are now 2,407 children living in emergency accommodation, hotels or B&Bs and 2,046 of them are in the capital. Focus Ireland director of advocacy Mike Allen said: “There is a real danger that we are beginning to view family homelessness as one of those unsolvable problems which is always with us. “Behind each of these numbers there is a real human being, a child wanting the same opportunities to learn and to pla...

The UNICEF has made a pledge to spend $3.3 billion on malnourished children, especially arising from conflicts and crises

Yesterday the United Nations Children Funds announces, it is spending a mind blowing $3.3billion on about 48million children in areas affected by conflicts. The north-Eastern part of Nigeria is listed among the areas that will be getting the fund as most homes have been abandoned and destroyed by the Boko Haram insurgency, which have left over 1.6million people homeless and over 90000 children at risk of starvation as parents are unable to provide the necessary needs for their children.Other countries listed to be affected by the conflict are Yemen, Sudan, South Sudan, Syria, Pakistan, and so on.  Earlier this week the UNICEF warns that 90000 children are expected to die of starvation in the North-Eastern part of Nigeria if necessary cautions are not taken. I believe this is a great step towards avoiding the disaster warned about. Now we employ the Nigerian Government to also take a great step towards avoiding the disaster and together we will overcome it.  Lets come together ...
